The story of the blue boar
A Pub with Deep Roots.
The Blue Boar has stood proudly on the green in Aldbourne for centuries, serving as a gathering place for villagers, travellers, and soldiers alike. Its name and sign... The Fierce Blue Boar hark back to heraldry and medieval England, where inns were identified by bold animal symbols.
At the Heart of Village Life.
Through changing times, The Blue Boar remained at the centre of Aldbourne life. It was the place where stories were shared over a pint of ale, farmers struck deals after market day, and the community came together to celebrate and commiserate. Generations have passed through its doors, each adding to its story.

The 101st Airborne Connection
During World War II, Aldbourne became a temporary home for the American 101st Airborne Division. Many of the “Easy Company” men, later made famous in Band of Brothers, spent their downtime in the pub, swapping training stories for laughter and camaraderie. The Blue Boar still honours this unique connection today.
Lights, Camera, Action!
The pub has also found fame on screen. Fans of Doctor Who may recognise Aldbourne and The Blue Boar from the classic 1971 serial The Daemons. Ever since, “Whovians” have made pilgrimages to the village, raising a pint where cult TV history was made.
